My Covid-19 Vaccine Experience

So I did a thing the other day. I got my vaccine.

The Covid-19 pandemic has taken such a long, quiet toll on so many people throughout the globe. We have lost so much and so many. At times it has felt very bleak.

But the good news is that more and more people getting vaccinated. The light at the end of the tunnel got a tiny bit brighter for me today when I got mine. The whole experience was quite uneventful, which I suppose is a good thing.

I came back from my best friend’s country house in the morning and worked the full day. I walked my puppies, dropped them at home and then headed out with my paperwork in tow.

I walked over to the Walgreeens in my neighborhood where I had my appointment, checked in at the pharmacy window and answered a long list of questions. I had my temperature checked and waited for my turn. Then I was called over to the window where a friendly nurse administered my dose of the Moderna vaccine. She also offered me a lollipop. I thought that was a nice touch. There was hand sanitizer everywhere. Of course because I’m clumsy, I tripped on the privacy curtain. The nurse laughed.

It was over in a matter of seconds. She told me to hang around the store for 10 minutes to make sure I didn’t have any major side effects, so I went to the Easter candy aisle and naturally stocked up on Peeps and chocolate bunnies since I am hosting Easter this Sunday for my family. I felt fine except for a sore arm, so off I went after purchasing said Easter candy and walked home.

But I cannot tell you how relieved I felt. Like maybe there was an end in sight to this dark time. I am the last person in my family to be vaccinated, so it is just great to breathe that sigh of relief that we are all now protected and can protect others.

I don’t think we’ll ever go back to the way things were, but I believe there are better days ahead. Hang in there and be good to each other. Being kind to each other is more important than ever before.
